How PrivacyPlus+ Privacy Panels Install

PrivacyPlus+ is a simple modular system: posts, L brackets and laser-cut aluminum panels. Local contractors (deck builders, landscaping companies, fence companies and handyman services) install it quickly, often in a few hours. Here's an overview of how it goes together.

What You Need

Parts(hardware is not included with panels and is sold separately):

  • PrivacyPlus+ panels: 36" x 68" (for example PPN36BL Nature, PPL36BL Linear) or 24" x 68", in Nature, Linear or Signal
  • Posts: PrivacyPlus+ 72" 3" x 3" aluminum posts, PPPOST72BK (cap and base plate included with the post), or 4x4 or 6x6 wood posts
  • 68" L brackets, set of 2 (PPBR68BK), with the PPHARD hardware kit: 10 self-tapping screws (bracket to post) and 10 bolts, nuts and washers (panel to bracket)
  • Or 68" U brackets, set of 2, black (PPUB68BK). U bracket screws (14-pc screw pack, PPUHARDBK) and the spacer kit (PPUSPBK: U-Bracket Spacer, 1/2" black, 20 pcs/pkg) are each sold separately.
  • 1/4" x 2-3/4" Tapcon concrete screws for mounting posts on concrete
  • GRK #10 x 3-1/8" outdoor screws (washer built into the head) for attaching panels to wood posts
  • Gates, if needed: 36" x 68" or 48" x 68" (for example PPG36LBL Linear 36", PPG48SBL Signal 48"). Gates include their own hinges, latch and closer.

Tools: impact drill with socket set, 4-ft level (or laser), 25-ft tape measure, pencil or marker, safety glasses, a large Phillips screwdriver, and a string line for long runs.

Installation Steps

  1. Set the posts. Attach the base plate to the bottom of each post. Set the post at its marked spot and plumb it in both directions. Fasten the base plate down. On long runs, run a string line between the first and last post to keep everything aligned.
  2. Install the L brackets. Mount each bracket 2" from the top of the post, at the same height on every post. Fasten with the self-tapping screws from the hardware kit (no pre-drilling). Interior posts get brackets on both sides; end posts get one bracket on the inward side. The open channel faces the panel.
  3. Hang the panels. Set each panel into the L brackets between two posts. Any pattern fits any bracket. Level and center it, then secure it with the bolts, nuts and washers from the hardware kit. Tighten firmly, but don't over-torque, to protect the powder-coat finish.
  4. Repeat for each bay. Work panel by panel along the run and check level every 3 to 4 bays. For 90° corners, mount brackets on the perpendicular faces of the corner post.
  5. Cap the posts. Press or fasten a cap onto each post and make sure it's fully seated to keep out water and debris.
  6. Final check. Panels level, posts plumb, fasteners snug, no brackets visible from the front, caps seated, no panel movement, base plates secure, job site clean.

Concrete vs. Wood Posts

  • On concrete: posts mount on the concrete with 1/4" x 2-3/4" Tapcon concrete screws through the base plate. Panels never mount directly on concrete; they always hang between posts.
  • PrivacyPlus+ metal posts: 72" black aluminum posts with cap and base plate, made to match the panels.
  • Wood posts: panels attach directly to 4" x 4" or 6" x 6" wood posts with GRK #10 x 3-1/8" outdoor screws (washer built into the head).
  • Wind and load: a privacy wall catches wind. Your contractor decides post spacing, locations and mounting for the site, and checks local codes and HOA rules.

L brackets or U brackets. The steps below use the L bracket. The 68" U bracket (PPUB68BK) is an alternative to the L bracket: it mounts between posts. The U bracket screw pack (PPUHARDBK) and the U-bracket spacer kit (PPUSPBK, 1/2" black, 20 pcs/pkg) are each sold separately.
