Hot Tub Privacy Screens in Black Aluminum
A hot tub should be the most relaxing spot in the yard, and that's hard when the neighbors can see right in. A hot tub privacy screen built from PrivacyPlus+ aluminum panels gives you a clean, modern wall around the tub that stands up to the weather and never needs painting, staining or sealing.
Here's how to plan privacy panels for a hot tub on a deck or patio: placement, height, access, and what to check before your contractor starts.
Why Aluminum Works Around a Hot Tub
Steam, splashing and wet feet all year are hard on wood. PrivacyPlus+ panels are precision-cut from 6063-T6 aluminum, a commercial-grade structural aluminum, then powder-coated. They won't rot, warp or decay over time, and they never need painting, staining or sealing. Posts, brackets and powder-coated stainless steel fasteners are sold separately from the panels, and they are made to resist corrosion and weather exposure.
Care is simple. Wash the panels with soap and water to clear dust or debris. If spa water splashes them, rinse it off and wash with soap and water.
Planning Your Hot Tub Privacy Wall
1. Start from inside the tub
Sit in the tub (or where it will go) and note every spot where you can see a neighbor's yard, patio or window. Those sight lines tell you which sides need a screen. Many tubs only need one or two sides covered, often in an L shape, not a full enclosure.
2. Check the height against a seated person
PrivacyPlus+ panels are 68" tall, on 72" posts. An installed panel sits 2 1/4" off the deck or other mounting surface, so the top of the panel is about 70 1/4" above that surface. When the tub sits on the same deck or patio as the panels, a seated person's eyes are usually well below that, so the panel blocks side views of people in the water. The simplest test: have someone sit in the tub, measure from the deck to their eye level, and compare it with about 70 1/4".
Some setups change the math:
- Raised tubs or steps. If the tub sits on a platform, or people sit on the rim or stand on the steps, eye level rises. Measure from where people actually sit and stand.
- Views from above. A screen blocks side views, not views from a neighbor's second-story window. A pergola overhead can help, and PrivacyPlus+ panels are made for pergolas as well.
- Sloped yards. If the neighbor's yard sits higher, check sight lines from their side too.
3. Leave room to use and service the tub
Keep the screen far enough from the tub that the cover can open fully (including a cover lifter, if you use one), people can step in and out comfortably, and the tub's equipment access panel stays reachable for service.
4. Plan the gate
If the screen closes off a corner of the deck or patio, add a matching PrivacyPlus+ gate so you're not walking around the long way. Gates come in the same Nature, Linear and Signal patterns, in 36" x 68" and 48" x 68", and each gate includes hinges, a latch and a self-closing closure unit. The 48" gate leaves a wider opening for moving a cover or chairs through.
If local rules call for a barrier or a latching gate around your tub, check them with your contractor and building department first.
5. Fit the run to your space
Panels come in 36" and 24" widths in every pattern, and the posts are spaced to match the panel you choose, 36" or 24". On any side you want to screen, you might need up to 3 panels. Your contractor can mix the two widths to fit the length. Panels can mount on a deck, a concrete patio, or almost anywhere with a solid, secure surface.
6. Wind, HOA and permits: check local rules
A privacy screen for a hot tub on a deck catches wind and adds load to the deck. Your contractor will decide post locations and mounting for your site. Some HOAs limit the height, color or placement of screens, and some towns require a permit for structures attached to a deck, so ask your HOA and building department what applies.
7. Choose a pattern you'll like up close
You'll see this screen from a few feet away, so pick the pattern in person if you can. Signal gives the most privacy, then Linear, then Nature. If the tub faces a close neighbor, start with Signal.
- Signal: rows of short dashes and dots across the panel. The most private of the three.
- Linear: a solid black face with thin, straight horizontal lines.
- Nature: irregular, staggered horizontal cutouts with an organic look. The least private of the three.

Hot Tub Privacy Screen FAQ
How tall is a PrivacyPlus+ hot tub privacy screen?
Each panel is 68 inches tall and sits 2 1/4 inches off the deck or mounting surface, so the top of an installed panel is about 70 1/4 inches above the surface. The posts are 72 inches tall. With the tub on the same deck or patio as the screen, that is usually above the eye level of people sitting in the water. Measure your setup to be sure.
Will aluminum privacy panels hold up next to a hot tub?
PrivacyPlus+ panels are 6063-T6 aluminum, a commercial-grade structural aluminum, with a powder coat. They won't rot, warp or decay, and they never need painting, staining or sealing. Wash them with soap and water, and rinse off any spa splash the same way. Panel fasteners are powder-coated stainless steel and are sold separately.
Can I add a gate to my hot tub privacy screen?
Yes. Matching PrivacyPlus+ gates come in the same Nature, Linear and Signal patterns, in 36" x 68" and 48" x 68" sizes. Each gate includes hinges, a latch and a self-closing closure unit.
Do I need HOA approval or a permit for a hot tub privacy screen?
It depends on where you live. Check with your HOA and local building department before you start.
Who installs PrivacyPlus+ panels?
Your contractor installs PrivacyPlus+ panels, usually in hours, not days. Panel posts, brackets and fasteners are bought separately. Gates include their own hardware.
